The final day of this year’s festival featured a series of signings and talks, including the interview with Orange, at The Lucy, a recently opened mixed-use complex owned by the Rogers Foundation that serves as a home for the B.M.I. crowd. On ground level at the complex is The Writer’s Block, a store that bumped its stock from about 5,000 books at a previous location to about 20,000 in the current one. On the upper floors are apartments for B.M.I. fellows and any Believer editors who live outside Vegas full-time but spend stretches there to work on the magazine.

Dandy Horse Ranch Overview Video
April 2019

The Dandy Horse Ranch is a Public Private Partnership proposal for a bicycle-centric community development in response to Boulder City Nevada’s request to reimagine the old city airport.

Home of the Hoover Dam, Boulder City has long been a destination for bicycle enthusiast because of it’s proximity to Lake Mead and the world famous mountain bike trails of Bootleg Canyon. The 52 acre proposal envisions modern mobile housing and hospitality elements anchored by a historic hanger reinvented as an event space. The project would preserve the sites rich history, bring new visitors to Boulder City and address a growing demand for attainable housing.

While anchored by The Writer’s Block, The Lucy also encompasses a dozen loft-style residences, three of which are allotted for artists and writers who are working to make lasting impacts on the Las Vegas Valley.

They will be reserved for artists in residence and fellows of UNLV’s Black Mountain Institute.

A large outdoor venue will be home to events such as The Believer Festival later this month. And a smaller event space will host live music nights, book clubs and readings.

“In a town known for neon,” said Rogers, “what better symbol for light is there than Lucy!”

”Just two years ago, the block was barren. Now it’s a crative enclave that’s home to musicians, Strip performers and independent business owners. Even more are lining up, eagerly anticipating his next projects…In his research, Gonya dug up a 1905 clipping from the Los Angeles Herald advertising a name-your-price auction for land in the area. It’s that spirit and embodies The Pioneer. And it’s that level of thought, history and personality that goes into all of Gonya’s projects. ”
